Kootenay Fly Shop & Guiding Co., located on the famous Elk River in Fernie British Columbia, situated in the East Kootenays of the Canadian Rockies, was established in 1995 to offer a full service fly fishing shop and BC Guide service for some of the best fly-fishing waters in North America.

In the 1930’s the Elk Valley was known as the Serengetti of North America and today, still has the densest population of non-coastal grizzly bears, black bears, elk, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, wolves, moose and whitetail deer. The Elk River is short listed to become one of British Columbia’s Heritage Rivers and as such, shall obtain a higher profile within the valley and province to protect and maintain the beauty and wildlife it supports. The last wild remaining populations of pure strain West Slope Cutthroat Trout in North America are found in the Elk River.

We offer Catch and Release fly-fishing excursions from 1 to 5 days on rivers, lakes, streams and creeks in British Columbia and Alberta. We can also customize a package to suit your fly-fishing needs!
